So I wanted to create something so much more, an image that is a beautiful depiction of those lost in conflict, one that had clear links to Ypres with the Menin Gate war memorial in the background behind the fields of Flanders poppies.
The figure rising up towards Heaven, leaving the darkness behind is made from a huge number of poppies, reinforcing the tragic number of lives lost in the conflict. Butterflies and tiny spirit details all come together to help lift the fallen.
However, my aim was to create something that could be appreciated long after all of the events that mark the Centenary fade away, to create a long-lasting positive statement that many can find comfort in through affiliation. The title ’Til We Meet Again is so perfectly in line with so much of my work that shows a journey, one that suggests will result in loved ones joining them to become reunited.
All profits from the sales will go directly to The Royal British Legion.
