Angus Gardner - Original Paintings and Limited Edition Prints:- Angus Gardner Artist At The Acorn Gallery, Pocklington with Obi his German Shepherd

Angus Gardner is a British contemporary artist based in the North East of England. Born in Newcastle to a Scottish-Irish father and a Sicilian-Maltese mother, he inherited his father’s dry wit and his mother’s Mediterranean passion, both of which are evident in his art.

After graduating in 1990 in Graphic and Audio Visual Design, his career began in New York City as an art teacher and then as a graphic designer for an investment bank on Maddison Avenue.

Homesick, in 1992 he returned to his parent’s pub, the Lobster Inn in Redcar and has worked in the UK and Europe as a graphic artist for the last 30 years for large corporate clients including Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Fenwicks, Fortnum & Masons and The Secret Garden Distillery.

Angus is now based in the North East of England. He lives on a working 600 acre farm near Moorsholm on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. An animal lover, Angus shares his home with his wife, step daughter, two horses, hens, cats and his beloved German Shepherd, Obi. It was during his daily walks with Obi that he began to illustrate local wildlife in the unique way that he sees it. His wife Pea affectionately calls him the ‘Bird Nerd’ and ‘Nature Boy’ and has to put up with countless tales of his latest encounters and his vivid imagination of how he sees it.

Angus paints in acrylic and likes to work humour into his art, whether that’s magnifying a quirk or characteristic of the creature he’s painting, creating personalities from the wildlife people see every day to perhaps make people think of them in a different way by adding commentary or working a related life memory into a composition or setting.

Angus's New Year’s resolution was to start creating and selling his own art in 2023 and after launching Angus Gardner as an independent artist almost a year ago, we are beyond delighted to announce that Angus has been signed by a major UK publisher and we are very proud to be showcasing Angus's debut series which he is calling ‘Spring Walks with Obi’.
