Illuminati Neon Original Neon Artworks

Mark Sloper - Illuminati Neon artist at The Acorn Gallery, Pocklington

Mark Sloper — known artistically as Mark Illuminati or Illuminati Neon — is a British contemporary artist whose work bridges the worlds of punk rebellion, cultural history, and luminous craftsmanship. Born in St Ives, Cornwall, into a long line of painters, Sloper grew up steeped in artistic tradition but was quickly drawn toward the raw, unapologetic spirit of the punk scene. A formative meeting with Adam Ant at age eleven set him on a lifelong path of creative disruption.

Before establishing himself in the art world, Sloper worked extensively in film and television as a cameraman, director of photography and documentary filmmaker, collaborating on projects featuring icons such as John Lennon, David Bowie, Billy Fury, and the Sex Pistols. These experiences sharpened his eye for character, narrative and the emotional voltage of British subculture.

Under his creative identity Illuminati Neon, Sloper crafts mixed-media artworks that combine distressed materials, vintage memorabilia, classical framing, and hand-bent neon glass. Each piece is a collision of heritage and irreverence — a celebration of the outsiders, innovators and provocateurs who challenged convention.

His work has been showcased in leading galleries, including the Saatchi Gallery, and is collected by high-profile admirers such as Sir Elton John, Boy George and Sting. From his studio in Marlow, Sloper continues to create bold, iconic pieces that illuminate the past and electrify the present.
