About Tim Shorten

Owner John Wass with Artist Tim Shorten At The Acorn Gallery, Pocklington

Tim Shorten was born in Bolton, Lancs. He studied at Bolton College of Art & Design, Preston Polytechnic (now the University of Central Lancashire) where he gained a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art, and Leeds Polytechnic.

Exhibitions in recent years include the Singer and Freidlander / Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, the Royal Cambrian Academy Summer Exhibition (several times).

Tim has often been considered a 'realist painter' however he states that the images are 'ironically, more about a sort of artificiality than reality' Tim's aim is for his work to be timeless, firstly because the universal emotion of the scenes he depicts is recognised by adults of all ages and time periods and secondly because his work will not 'date' like those that reference the present day.

Tim has recently retired from his full time job and is spending much more time painting and is currently working on a much anticipated collection due for release later in 2019. Tim is influenced by Edward Hopper, Stanley Spencer and David Hockney. Tim's works are held in many private collections here in the UK and abroad.
