The Back Story
Over the Border - As an artist, Mackenzie’s home town of Middlesbrough and the iconic Transporter bridge in particular, have been a constant source of inspiration to him throughout his career.
The town, the people, the football team, the community, they all feature in his work and nothing makes him prouder than seeing his images of Middlesbrough exhibited and celebrated in galleries around the world.
The Scene
A contemporary black and white image which pays homage to the enduring presence of the majestic Transporter bridge and all those who have lived, and live in her splendid shadow.
Mackenzie’s monochrome imagery reflects on the days when children waited for their Dads to return over the bridge after a hard day’s work, and milk bottles were left on doorsteps every morning. As the colours and details of this once-vibrant area fade into the shadows of the past, a single pop of colour stands out—a reminder of the love Mackenzie, like so many others, holds for his hometown.
The Shape
This artwork is a total statement piece! Guaranteed to provoke comment and compliments, it is modern but accessible, with just a touch of nostalgia making it both contemporary and relatable, torn edges and a ‘floating’ mount adds to the uniqueness of this piece.
