ANGUS SAYS:
Whilst walking in the woods behind our house during lockdown, I came across a Tawny Owlet sitting on the ground right in front of me. It was covered in downy fur-like feathers, not yet fully fledged and with no obvious signs of injury.
My guess was that it had attempted it’s first flight and couldn’t get back to it’s nest. I could hear it’s mum screeching loudly overhead. Concerned for its welfare, I ‘googled’ when I got home ‘what should I do if I find an owlet’ and thankfully learned that the mum would continue to feed and defend it quite vigorously.
What surprised me most wasn’t the fact that I’d been privileged enough to see a Tawny Owlet up so close, it was the ‘expression’ on it’s face. It was a look of utter humiliation. It reminded me of the expression on my sister’s face when we were forced each year to have our photograph taken wearing that year’s knitted creation by our gran at Christmas time.
This piece was released by Angus in 2023 as an independent artist, prior to him being signed up by Wishbone Publishing. The full edition was never produced making it even more desirable. We have very limited availability.
