Walks with Obi - The Debut Collection from Angus Gardner!

Introducing North Yorkshire Artist Angus Gardner

Angus Gardner has been an artist for over 25 years. In fact, there is an excellent chance that you will have seen his work without even knowing it was him!

Angus has so far spent his career creating incredible artwork for commercial enterprises, from small but specialised high-end items to bespoke art pieces to adorn events like the Edinburgh festival. From designer labels to product packaging and from posters to advertising murals, Angus has done it all!

His award-winning artwork has passed across some very prestigious desks belonging to several very well-known and highly respected British Brands! His understanding of the requirements of his clients earned him an envious reputation and a very successful career.

In the middle of all of this was a need that Angus hadn’t even really been aware of… what he hadn’t yet had was artistic freedom… so the world, and the artist himself, was yet to discover what Angus Gardner would create if left to his own devices!

During lockdown, Angus found time and head space in his long daily walks with his faithful German Shepherd dog Obi.

They were inseparable! Living on a farm on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors gave them both a great landscape to explore and their daily adventures took them off together every day on a voyage of discovery, with each walk inevitably resulting in an encounter with some bird or animal, crossing their path or creating a diversion to capture their attention.

Angus Gardner is learned man but his need to know and to understand these daily interactions resulted in him expanding his knowledge to better understand the nature and the reasons why these creatures behaved this way.

As the threat from Covid19 subsided, society was once again allowed to mix and mingle and Angus bumped into an old friend he hadn’t seen since university. Conversation was long and satisfying with much catching up to do and during their discussions Angus of course described his work and some of the projects he had undertaken since they’d last met.

The friend enquired as to what was 'an Angus Gardner', what did Angus enjoy painting the best? Of course Angus couldn’t tell him… he realised that he had never even thought about it… all he had ever known was to work to a brief, in a wide variety of styles and mediums, but none were of his own choosing.

One evening, when he had some time to himself, Angus decided to start his own art journey and realised his walks with Obi were to be his inspiration. He felt drawn to the birds and the animals in his daily walks, the adventures and the fleeting interactions had proven to be full of painting promise!

So out came the paints and so it began… in earnest. Each day, whilst out, and about, he kept his eyes, peeled for creatures and birds along the way. He began to make notes of the predicaments and the circumstances in which he found them, and this in turn led to the creation of this incredible collection of artwork.

Angus found himself lost in his studio for hours on end! Each painting started somewhere and developed a life of its own resulting in a beautiful collection of paintings and their resulting prints.

Each individual print comes with a beautiful certificate of authenticity which tells the story of the animal and how they met with Angus and Obi.  One thing Angus Gardner is not afraid of is a good story so it's great that these are included with your artwork so you too can enjoy them!
