Race For The Line is an energetic new original from StuART Storey’s Rowing Series, capturing the speed, rhythm and sheer determination of crews driving towards the finish.

Four racing boats cut through a sea of pattern and movement, their long, streamlined forms slicing across the composition as the rowers work together in perfect synchronisation. Storey turns the water itself into a mass of swirling lines and repeated motifs, creating an almost hypnotic sense of current, turbulence and momentum.

Vivid bands of green, blue, pink, yellow and orange give each crew its own identity, while the intricate dot work and hand-drawn detailing invite you to look closer. From a distance the composition is bold and graphic; up close, it reveals an extraordinary amount of texture, pattern and individual mark-making.

There is a wonderful tension between the precision of the racing shells and the freedom of the water around them.
