ROXY's ARTIST STATEMENT:

“As a young professional artist, I am passionate about creating sculptures that capture the essence of animals in a unique and endearing way. My focus on animals allows me to express my love for nature and wildlife in my artwork, and I work in bronze because of its timeless beauty and durability.

My sculptures are meant to induce feelings of joy and warmth, and I strive to bring an individual personality to my pieces. I believe that art has the power to bring people together and to evoke emotions, and I aim to use my sculptures to bring a smile to people’s faces and to brighten up their day.

I have also donated pieces to charity in order to help raise funds and awareness, this is something I am passionate about continuing to do.”

Meet Penelope — a beautifully characterful little hippo with an expression that is almost impossible to resist.

Roxy Winterburn captures the wonderfully rounded form and gentle nature of the hippopotamus in this charming limited edition sculpture. Seated with her legs tucked beneath her and her head turned inquisitively towards us, Penelope has a quiet personality all of her own.

The softly textured bronze finish accentuates the folds and contours of her substantial little body, while subtle warmer highlights around the feet and facial features bring out the sculptural detail. It is Penelope’s beautifully observed face, however, that really gives the piece its appeal — those expressive eyes creating an endearing sense of curiosity and calm.

Compact enough to sit comfortably on a shelf, mantelpiece or side table, Penelope Mini Bronze is a delightful wildlife sculpture with plenty of presence despite her smaller proportions — and a lovely addition for anyone with a soft spot for hippos.
