A striking and soulful portrait of one of the most influential musicians of all time, Jimi Hendrix is an original painting by Ieva Baranovska, created during the Covid lockdown.
Painted during an extraordinary period when everyday life had suddenly slowed and changed, the portrait captures Hendrix in a quieter, more contemplative moment. His unmistakable features and iconic hair dominate the composition, while Ieva’s beautifully observed skin tones give his expression a wonderful sense of presence.
The richly coloured scarf brings an explosion of purple, yellow, green and blue to the centre of the painting, while the deep blue jacket dissolves into expressive drips towards the bottom of the canvas. This looser, contemporary treatment contrasts beautifully with the detail and realism of the face.
As well as celebrating the individuality, style and creative spirit of a true music legend, the fact that Jimi Hendrix was painted during lockdown gives this one-off original an additional story and a particular moment in time within Ieva Baranovska’s work.
