Inspired by Nicholson’s brilliantly theatrical portrayal in Tim Burton’s Batman, the piece captures the character’s sinister humour and larger-than-life personality. The exaggerated features, arched eyebrows and unmistakable smile are pushed to delicious extremes, while the cool, almost ghostly complexion contrasts dramatically with flashes of vivid red and green.
Teal’s distinctive caricature style is particularly well suited to a character who was never meant to be subtle. Dark, mischievous and just a little unsettling, the portrait has tremendous presence and plenty of personality.
