With ‘Lost in Hollywood 2025’ launching at the start of May and me being booked to appear at a special ‘Star Wars’ themed event on May 4th, it was too good an opportunity to miss by not creating something brand-new for my collectors. The previous year I had released ‘The Trilogy’ – a striking 3-part VHS inspired box set that went down really well. I would typically wait a couple of years between each movie piece so I wanted to ensure that I created something a little different.

So, for many a year now I have seen the potential to produce a bold image that was along similar lines to my ‘Joker’ piece entitled ‘The Devil on my Shoulder’. That particular artwork was incredibly popular with my collectors as it was bold and blatant and more importantly, it allowed me to introduce a 3D and 3-way flip lenticular original and limited edition to show it off to the maximum and it did just that! The formula of having a lead character and then a supporting person on each shoulder works so well and has many possibilities.

I had wanted to create a piece that focused on the intensity of Darth Vader for most of my years since becoming an artist, I am still not quite sure why it has taken me this long to get on with it! As like the Joker, Vader has such a stand out ferocity that is rarely matched, so I knew before I even started that this new piece would allow the opportunity to create something really special! That mask is so iconic and so intimidating and brings back so many vivid memories as a kid watching the films for the first time back in the 80s.

‘I Am Your Father’ features Vader himself and then flanked by Luke and Leia, it just works so nicely! Is it just one or all three that wear a mask for protection? Look a little closer and you will spot Obi Wan Kenobi and the Emperor too! I could have kept this a black and white tonal piece and it would have worked so well, however I love how the red works so dramatically against the black, whilst the other colours add even more life into the scene.

This ‘push and pull’ style of working is done with the intention of being able to really lay down the texture when creating the canvases as it allows me to work freely with adding hand-painted and sprayed detail. The hand embellished print editions are so vibrant, whilst the MDV offering (original variations) is so intense and detailed, as well as being a great size to make an impact without dominating. Then there is the captivating lenticular! If you are able to, then you really need to see it to see how it moves, it’s quite something! Then finally, something new for me! This is the first time that I have introduced a stunning brushed aluminium print edition that is set within a sleek aluminium frame. The end results are amazing and will without doubt be something that I will do again!
