Over the winter of 2019-20 I had been mulling over some photographs I had taken of lighthouses a couple of years earlier, and as the lockdown was announced in March I suddenly realised that if I was going to be holed up alone in my studio for weeks or months to come I needed a new project.
Like many of us, I also wanted to think about better times ahead rather than dwell on the gloom. The result was a series of sunny, optimistic pictures which contrast with the moody interiors of jazz clubs and railway stations. Nonetheless, the time-traveller within can still be seen!
