Collection: A Kiss From Midas - Early Access

Artist Marie Louise Wrightson - A Kiss From Midas

Artist Marie Louise Wrightson holding The Water Nymph Original from her new collection 'A Kiss From Midas'
In her latest collection, A Kiss From Midas, Scottish artist Marie Louise Wrightson embarks on a striking new artistic chapter—one gilded in both technique and tone. Renowned for her playful, fairy tale-infused paintings,

Marie now turns toward the mythical, weaving classical storytelling with a newfound opulence. The introduction of 22 and 23 carat gold leaf adds a lavish, alchemical quality to the works, each shimmer and gleam evoking the fabled touch of Midas himself.

This collection signals a deliberate shift, with Marie embracing a richer, more refined visual language that maintains her charm while embracing a deeper sense of gravitas.

Gone is the overt whimsy of her earlier work, replaced by a quietly powerful elegance. The figures and scenes in A Kiss From Midas seem to step out of some long-lost legend, radiating the timeless allure of myth while showcasing her elevated technical mastery.

Yet, even within this more serious realm, there is still a twinkle—a glint in the eye of the artist who delights in the surreal. The result is a collection that feels both ancient and fresh, golden in both palette and ambition.

'A Kiss From Midas' opens at The Acorn Gallery, Pocklington on Saturday 17th May and Marie Louise Wrightson will be in the gallery from 11am.
